Growing a loyal following on social media is critical to the success of your business. This may seem like a simple task but frequently it is over analyzed and made difficult.
[DUMB IT DOWN] Whether you’re running a business account or personal account, it’s important to remember not everyone who has an interest in fitness is familiar with the biomechanics and biology of the human body. Not everyone knows what BPM stands for and what the ideal range for their age or where the latissimus dorsi is located and how to properly target that muscle. To help grow your following, target those who don’t know these specifics, but are interested in learning and bettering themselves physically. Your target audience should be those who are ready for positive change, open to tips and suggestions. Remember, Less Is More…
[TIPS] Tips and free advice given to your audience is what keeps them coming back for more. Your brand MUST be a reliable source of information related to the general fitness population. For example, you can provide detailed information in regard to a diet and weight loss… Because 3,500 calories equal about 1 pound of fat, you need to burn 3,500 calories more than you take in to lose 1 pound. So, in general, if you cut 500 calories from your typical diet each day, you’d lose about 1 pound a week (500 calories x 7 days = 3,500 calories) By providing general fitness tips like these, not only will your followers build a bond with your page. Additionally, they will also be more inclined to share your tips and page with their friends… thus growing your following.
[BLOGS/ARTICLES] Blogs and articles, just like tips are helpful information which you are providing to your following free of cost. The only difference is that with blogs you are able to dive a little deeper into topics. You can expand on a topic which you posted on by writing a blog and redirecting your following to your website. Tips are great and those posts can generate questions and concerns from your following. You can also address those questions which were brought up within your blog. Not sure what to blog about? Ask your audience what they would like to be educated on or learn more about… Stay Resourceful!
[TRAINING VIDEOS] This is a great way to get engagement from your followers and also gain new followers. These videos are basically demonstrating tips, showing your following how to do a certain exercise. These are not YouTube based videos. These videos are for your social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram. Try to keep your videos at a minute or less. If a movement or exercise can’t be explained in under a minute, chances are it’s too complex for your following who are beginners. Statistically, videos have a much larger reach and engagement compared to photos. Keep the videos, short, sweet and straight to the point.
[RECIPES] Everyone LOVES to eat but eating healthy can be a difficult task for a lot of people. Meal preps which have great flavor will help with a healthy diet. I love seeing a plate of delicious looking food along with the recipe so that I can make it for myself… don’t you? Take a photo of an amazingly looking plate of food. Tell me you wouldn’t want to eat it and also get the recipe… I know you would! Not only will photos like this have your followers drooling as they look over the recipe, but it will also encourage them to cook and eat healthy.
[SUPPLEMENT ADVICE] When we see someone who has accomplished a good-looking physique, we all wonder “what are they taking to help them achieve those results”. Supplemental advice is very important to anyone who is involved within the fitness industry. Whether it’s to shed those last few pounds or to pack on a little bit more muscle. With so many different type of supplements and supplement companies, it can be hard to have clear idea of what supplement to take and when to take it. Once you’ve built a connection with your following, they’ll be more open to your supplement suggestions.
[THE VALUE PROPOSITION] STOP BEING SEL CENTERED! Know your audience, because nowadays your followers are asking themselves “what’s in it for me?” This takes us to the topic of being selfless and more resourceful towards your followers. They don’t want to constantly hear and see you post about yourself or your business. Think about what your audience would like to see and what they would benefit from. From that point forward, provide a shit ton of value to them! More content/information = More engaging on your page More engagement = More eyeballs More eyeballs = More fans/followers
[#HASHTAG] This is a great way to get your post in front of those who don’t follow you. Facebook and Instagram allow users to look up posts by use of hashtags. Ideally, use anywhere from 10-15 hashtags per post on Instagram. The max is 30. Facebook posts doesn’t respond to well with hashtags. Make sure your hashtags are related to your post and the audience you are targeting. All these hashtags are going to be related to what you post. If someone searching any of the hashtags you posted, and they come across your content and finds it informative and useful…guess what? You probably just gained a follower…MAGIC!
[GYM TRENDING TOPICS] Putting together topics based around fitness which are trending is a great way to deliverer content to your followers. Providing trending topics will help your content be seen daily. Keep these topics fitness-related. You can also utilize hashtags such as #MotivationalMonday , #WorkoutWednesday , #FlexFriday , #TransformationTuesday to help you find topics or even include within your post to gain more reach. These trending topics can create engagement from your followers and also bring new follows on board.
[GYM HUMOR] My personal favorite… Having fun with whatever you do is important. People love to smile and laugh. Provide your followers with gym humor related posts. This is something every fitness person can related to, regardless of their level of experience. Gym humor type of post doesn’t have to be tied into any specific demographic. Gym humor can be about using certain equipment while others can be post-workout struggles, leg day is what you might come across a lot. Gym humor posts will pick up a lot of engagement. Additionally, these types of posts have a high chance that people will tag their gym friends. More engagement=new fans/followers!
